Jerry Heaster Collection
The Jerry Heaster Collection was a gift of Hope Heaster in March 2013. The collection contains business columns written by Heaster for the Kansas City Starfrom 1979 to 2005.
Jim Swetnam Collection
The Jim Swetnam collection was received by LaBudde Special Collections in March of 2017. The collection contains notebooks and notecards with photograph descriptions, film negatives and photos from Swetnam’s career as a commercial photographer, correspondence, and official Professional Photographers of America paperwork.
Jim Wanser Collection
The Jim Wanser Collection covers in depth the forming of the UMKC LGBT Initiative and its development into the LGBT Office, as well as the founding of the Kansas City Chapter of GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Documents include Advisory Board minutes, drafts, programs, correspondence, outreach, and educational resources, spanning from 1992 to 2013. Series are broken into two main areas: the LGBT Office (first ten series) and GLAAD (last series).
Jimmy and Jeannie Cheatham Collection
Joe Gradinger Collection
The collection consists of compact cassettes of live jazz music recorded by Joe Gradinger. Recordings include the Topeka Jazz Workshop, Wichita Jazz Festival, KC Jazz Workshop All Stars, Mid-American Jazz Festival, Denver Jazz Party, and performances by Jay McShann, Milt Abel, Priscilla Bowman, Woody Heman, Dave Brubeck, Zoot Simms, and Marilyn Maye.
Joe Heyen Collection
The collection consists of cassette tapes and CD’s of live concerts at Penn Valley Park, Crown Center, Line Creek Park and the Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City. The dates of the concerts range from 1973-1979. There is also a copy of the 2009 documentary "Cowtown Ballroom… Sweet Jesus" which was produced and directed by Heyen in the collection.

John B. Gage Collection
Consists of audio recordings of John Gage, Mayor of Kansas City, including speeches, Gage recalling his past, and radio broadcasts of events and panel discussions with Gage and his administration.

John Benson Brooks Collection
A portion of the collection consists of recordings of performances and compositions by John Benson Brooks on lacquer discs. A large part of the collection are recordings of music, broadcasts, documentaries, etc. that Brooks had recorded to open reel audiotape.

John Garrity Collection
The John Garrity Collection contains correspondences, legal and business documents, handwritten and typed music, promotional material, newspaper clippings, and photographs related to Garrity and his publishing company Wyandotte Music. Emphasis is on materials from the 1970s.
Collection also includes recordings from journalist, John Garrity, music from Kansas City and folk music from San Francisco in which Garrity was involved.
John Kander Collection
The collection consists of lacquer disc recordings of John Harold Kander, American composer from Kansas City, and part of the songwriting team of Kander and Ebb, composers of the musical theater hits Cabaret and Chicago.

Consists of live performace recordings of jazz musician John Park.
John S. Service Papers
This material was donated by John Service to E. Grey Dimond in April 1987.
This material contains correspondence between John Service, of the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of California - Berkeley, and Edgar Snow and concerns Service's trip to China, the leadership struggles in China in the early 1970s, Snow's book Journey to the Beginning, and Snow's attempts to finish his last book.
John Snow Papers
This material was donated by John Snow, Edgar Snow's nephew, to Mary Clark Dimond and was removed from her papers in July 1985.
These three folders contain correspondence from Edgar Snow to his nephew John Snow and to Edgar Snow from a Senate subcommittee, as well as notes for a speech Edgar Snow delivered to the Council for World Affairs in Cleveland, Ohio on March 28, 1955.

The collection is separated into personal documents, documents related to the HRP, and photographs. Materials include correspondence, publications, various writings, artifacts, and notes.

Joy Cabe Collection
The Joy Cabe Collection was donated by Dianna Kehlman, executor of Cabe's estate, in January 2019. The collection consists of meeting minutes, event planning notes, receipts, 501(c)(3) incorporation paperwork, bylaws, and other materials related to the Lavender Ladies organization, as well as Joy Cabe’s personal event badges, buttons, bags, and other items generally related to women’s and LGBTQ+ rights. Emphasis is on Lavender Ladies documents from 2006 to 2011.
